Dr. Samuel Favrichon

Project scientist

Samuel is a remote sensing scientist specializing in Earth observations using satellite-based microwave measurements. After earning an engineering diploma in computer science and data analysis from the Université de Technologie de Compiègne, he completed a PhD at the Observatoire de Paris in 2021. His doctoral research focused on measuring global land surface temperature through passive microwave observations, combining physical models and statistical tools to better understand interactions between microwave radiation and various continental geophysical variables.

During his time at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Samuel developed an interest in vegetation measurement and biomass estimation. His work centered on mapping global forest structure and monitoring its evolution at different resolutions by integrating data from multiple observing systems.

In 2024, he joined Gamma, supported by an ESA Living Planet Fellowship, to advance long-term biomass monitoring through the integration of active and passive microwave measurements.
